Biological Nutrient Removal

Biological Nutrient Removal is commonly associated with sequenced combinations of aerobic, anoxic and anaerobic processes which facilitate biological denitrification. This occurs through conversion of nitrate to nitrogen gas and "luxury" uptake of phosphorus by biomass with subsequent removal through wasting of sludge (biomass).
