Conservation Practices
RURAL PRACTICES
Rural conservation covers a wide range of practices, including those within crop fields and edges of fields, in pastures, on land taken out of production, along streams, creeks and other waterways, and other areas. Many conservation practices implemented in rural areas are designed to improve and protect water quality by reducing erosion and removing nutrients such as Nitrogen and Phosphorus.
URBAN PRACTICES
Urban conservation is practiced on a small-scale by individual homeowners and also on a much larger scale but businesses and municipalities. It has expanded significantly in the past decade as more Iowans who live and work in cities and suburbs have become interested and engaged in stewardship projects and activities. Many of the larger urban conservation projects are aimed at improving and protecting water quality.
INDUSTRY PRACTICES
Industry conservation includes practices are designed to reduce point source pollution from large industrial businesses, facilities and municipalities to improve and protect water quality.
